COMPLETE THE WELCOME PACKET HERE

Your Welcome Packet is now OPEN

Pioneer is stronger when families are connected, informed, and involved in the ways that work for them. The Welcome Packet is the easiest way to get started.

In one place, you can:

  • Join the PTA and be part of the community supporting Pioneer students, staff, and families.
  • Choose volunteer opportunities that fit your time, interests, and availability.
  • Give to the Fall Fund Drive to help make more possible for our kids and our school.

Why are these important?

More for our kids. More for Pioneer.

Together, our community can say yes to more classroom support, more enrichment, more student programs, and more opportunities to come together.

  • Field trips. Science Fair. Family events. Student programs. School Play. Teacher grants. Classroom support. Community events. And more.

Complete the Welcome Packet and choose how you’d like to be part of Pioneer this year.

Board & Community Meeting: Volunteer Info Night

Sept. 17, 6:00-8:00 pm
Pioneer Library

If you're thinking about signing up, have questions, or are already signed up, this night is for you! And if you're not quite ready to dive into volunteering, please still join us. We'll spend part of the evening together as a full group, sharing ideas, asking questions, and hearing from our community.

Here's the overview of the night:

  • Snacks & Drinks Provided (you should know we're passionate about good snacks)
  • Board business (brief)
  • Full-group discussion (fun)
  • Social time after the meeting! (very fun)

6:00-7:00 pm We'll cover a few quick board items (compliance and official voting), then brainstorm ideas for the year! We'd love to hear from the community, so please feel free to join us for the first hour!

7:00-8:00 pm We'll dive into what it looks like to volunteer at Pioneer and find the best fit for you. Think of this as a live-action version of "Choose Your Own Adventure" books.

8:00 pm: Once we have adjourned the meeting, we will head to Pints Barn (114 E St SW, Tumwater, WA) for some social time (and more snacks)

Please know that one of our main goals moving forward is to provide childcare in the Pioneer Gym from 6:00-8:00 pm for any meeting attendees. We are partnering with Olympia High School Leadership to make this happen and hope to have everything set up for October or November 2026.

Please reach out with any questions about attending meetings! I hope to see you there!

From,
Kelsey

  • Like helping people stay connected
  • Want to be involved but need something flexible (does not have to be during work hours or on-site)
  • Enjoy organizing or communicating
  • Want to help your teacher without committing to an in-class weekly volunteer schedule

❤️ Volunteer of the Month: Flavia Hulsey ❤️

We are SO excited to recognize Flavia Hulsey as our Volunteer of the Month for September 2026! As our Volunteer Coordinator, Flavia brings so much energy, generosity, and fun to everything she does, and she is a big reason volunteering with the PTA feels like such a good time. She's a working mom, always up for something outdoorsy or adventurous with her family, and somehow still shows up for Pioneer in a million different ways. And if you mention Flavia’s name to pretty much any Pioneer staff member, they light up.

"Flavia is one of the most thoughtful and organized people I know! She goes above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome and included. The PTA is incredibly lucky to have her"

- Alicia Nash (Pioneer Parent & Chair of FIeld Day)

We are so thankful for you, Flavia!

🌟 COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Highlighting the people and organizations doing good things in and around our Pioneer community.

This month’s spotlight: Zak Champagne
Pioneer Parent + Chair of our DEI Committee

Zak's book launch celebration for his book, Curious Kids in the Math Classroom, is Sept. 19 at 4:00 pm @ Browsers Bookshop.

I am thrilled to be writing to you at the start of the 2026–27 school year!

This summer, a whopping 17 board members and committee chairs gathered over food, drinks, and a few activities to talk about how we can best support all Pioneer students and families, what we want our meetings and events to feel like, and how we can do meaningful work while remembering that community is often built around a table, preferably one with good food on it.

One thing came through loud and clear: we want to have FUN and bring the joy.

If we haven’t met, I’m Kelsey Christensen-Abel, your PTA President this year. I’m a working mom and grad student, so I’m living proof that supporting the PTA does not require loads of free time. If you do want to jump in, this is a really fun group to do it with. Some of my closest friends are people I’ve met through this community, which is probably my favorite part of it all. I’m really glad to be part of this Pioneer community with all of you.

From, Kelsey
