Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering with the PTA is a great way for families can support the students and staff at our school.

 

Please review the descriptions of each volunteer area and indicate your interest(s). Your contact information will be forwarded by the Volunteer Coordinator to the PTA board member or committee chair that organizes that activity and they will be in touch with you.

 

Separate requests will be sent out for volunteers to fill individual shifts for events such as Book Fair, Field Day, and School Play rehearsal chaperones.

Volunteer Opportunities
Arts Enrichment
Provide arts enrichment activities in class or after school.
Assemblies
Help plan, select, and coordinate school-wide enrichment assemblies.
Book Fair
Book Fairs are held in the afternoons during Conference Week in the Fall and Spring. Help set up or take down, or work the cash registers. One to two hour shifts are available. SignUp Genius links will also be sent out closer to the events.
Chess Club
The chess club is led by volunteers who teach the kids to play and supervise the games. Depending on volunteer availability and school needs, it can be offered as a recess alternative during school hours or as an after-school activity. (Last offered pre-pandemic; PTA has supplies)
Class Parent
Serve as a liaison between families and the classroom teacher. Duties may vary depending on teacher needs.
Communications & Website
Easy to volunteer from home - help with updating website content, our newsletter, email blasts, and/or social media.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee
Help to celebrate & to promote awareness inside and outside the classroom by planning programs & events, such as the Cultural Fair.
Fall/Harvest Festival
Plan a fall-themed event for Pioneer families. Past events have included a carnival-style festival, a "Monster Mash" dance, and/or a nature-inspired harvest festival. Volunteers needed to plan, advertise, set up, work station or event activities, tear down.
Field Day Committee
Help to plan and prep for Field Day at the end of the school year. A separate sign-up is sent out in June for volunteers interested in helping only on the day of the event.
Fifth Grade Celebration
Help with planning the 5th Grade Celebration, including food, activities, slideshow. etc. A separate sign-up to volunteer only on the day of the event will be sent out in June.
Financial Review Committee
Meet with the Treasurer to provide an annual Financial Review of the PTA’s ‘books’. Use the Washington State PTA’s financial review checklist to review the PTA’s financial related documents, including Meeting Minutes, Standing Rules, any additional policies (such as money handling, password updates, etc.), bank statements, reconciliation reports, treasurer’s reports, expenses, etc. Submit the checklist, which includes recommendations, to the board.
Fundraising Committee
Help to brainstorm, plan and promote fundraising events, like Ditch the Kitchen, Bingo, Bunco or new ideas to help raise funds that support our programming.
Garden
Help maintain the Pioneer garden AND/OR Participate in classroom visits to help students learn about and interact with plants in the garden.
Grants Committee
Help review grant requests from the Pioneer Elementary community three times per year.
Hospitality Committee
Assist with set-up, refreshments, and/or greeting students and families for various PTA events throughout the school year, and with Teacher & Staff Appreciation week activities in May.
Legislative Liaison
Provides updates to keep the Pioneer PTA informed of advocacy efforts by the WSPTA in the state legislature. This person can also serve as the Pioneer PTA representative at the WSPTA Legislative Assembly and help to determine advocacy objectives at the state level. The Legislative liaison may also serve as a link between the OSD School Board and the Pioneer PTA.
Olympia Junior Programs
Participate as an usher to chaperone Pioneer students and help them view live plays at the Washington Performing Arts Center in downtown Olympia.
Passport Club (World Geography and Culture)
Volunteer works with teachers to help students learn geography and world culture. Leads pre-determined passport check days that occur once a month. (Last offered pre-pandemic; PTA has supplies)
School Play
Volunteer to serve as daily rehearsal chaperones & performance day volunteers, including concessions, ticket sales and cast party. Volunteer to help with set and costume design and other tasks as needed.
Science Fair
Help plan the science fair, serve as a judge for the science fair.
Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) Enrichment Commit
Volunteers can work with teachers, the school principal, vendors, and other committee members to schedule after school STEM activities. STEM is an increasingly important field as many of the jobs available today are STEM-related. Exposing our children early to these opportunities is critical. There are budget management and program management responsibilities, which vary by activity. (Last offered pre-pandemic; PTA has LEGO engineering kits)
Spirit Wear
Help order the Spirit Wear products and sort and distribute them when they arrive.
Walk & Roll
Be a meet-up site leader and help students learn traffic safety skills by walking with them a few blocks to school once a month.
Yearbook
Represent a grade by taking photos of school events and help laying out yearbook pages.
